KEKXIFIED

Every time I pass by the new wing of ATC (the floor where all the new restaurants are located), I always give a 2nd look at John and Yoko for it has a cool facade and funky chairs with animal print design like giraffe, snakes, leopard and tiger. I can say this place is paradise and rockin!

Indeed a hip restaurant with substance. Most of the food we ordered; Gosh, I tell you, it was excelente! What makes them different from other Japanese restaurants is their modern twist to authentic Japanese cuisine.
So for our orders, we had:
California Maki Salad Php 218.00

I love their Cali Maki Salad! It’s fresh and lite’ and it’s a good starter! I love the mangoes in it!! nyaam!!
Seafood Shabu Shabu Php 499.00

Definitely one of my top favorite from what we ordered! The vegetable and seafoods were so fresh and along with it, you can add a special sauce to add taste to the noodles. The serving was very generous, I may say! The fish in it was very flavorful that it leaves nostalgia on your taste buds.
Las Vegas Roll Php 248.00

A Sushi Roll with cheese overload on top! It’s delicious but I wish we had a different order for rolls! I’m kinda eyeing their version of fried rolls tho!
Tuna Sashimi Php 229.00

We had 2 orders of Tuna Sashimi because it’s my Parents and Ate Sai’s favorite as oppose to Ate Dane’s favorite:
Salmon Sashimi Php 229.00

The Salmon’s perfff!!! It actually makes you want to have more, more, more! However, I was preparing my stomach for the love of rice! Are you ready?

Here are the ff. viands we had to partner our big bowl of rice!
Chicken Tempura Php 238.00

Obviously Alex’s choice! A not so japanese dish but it’s okay! Definitely a kid-friendly choice to look forward to in their menu! So for those who wants to dine in at a Japanese resto but is hesitant to just because their kids despise japanese food; at John and Yoko’s they do serve foods like this!
Salmon Belly Teriyaki Php 278.00

Another favorite from what we ordered! Actually we all loved it, even Alex! The sauce compliments the fresh salmon that makes it very tender!
Beef Teppan Php 378.00

And of course, the all time favorite: Beef Teppan! of course it’s the most perfect pair for steamed rice!

* haay, why do I have to deal with this hunger? I only ate chicken noodle soup and that covers for my entire day already and I didn’t even finish it, you know why? it is because my throat is swollen and red, and it hurts. It’s painful to eat or talk or drink! It’s even a burden for me to swallow my own saliva! Siguro since it’s holy week, it’s my force sacrifice because if I get tempted to eat, I myself will suffer for my own indulgences.

I saw this blueberry muffins this morning @ 7 eleven and I know, I should be watching my calorie content because I’m getting a little pudgy but I have to try it because I’m a big blueberry muffin fan, ( I miss the giant muffins from CostCo) anyways, I was so excited to take a bite out of these goodies and they did not actually disappoint my taste buds. They were sweet, moist , and tasty! It’s only Php 26.00! omnomnom!
Bagnet is a famous specialty from Vigan made of deep-fried pork or chicharon but it still has its laman kinda similar to lechon kawali.
8065 Bagnet is located near our school, Leon Guinto Street, Malate.. Though I currently study @ St.Scho and I actually have heard a lot about how good their banget and bagoong rice are, It was just now that I had a chance to try this sinful platter and you know what? I regret nothing! this fatty food is so good!
So since the year is about to end, I would like to satiate my december post of various top 5’s to cap off 2011!
Trend 1: MILK TEA
The trend started in Taiwan about 30 years ago and the goodness of it raged around the world and here in Manila it looks like the milk tea craze started this year and has been regaining its momentum as I speak.
as I said on my very old post, whether it’s a fad or a long term craze, it’s a good sign since tea is a healthy option especially for youngsters who usually purchase this product.

Sometimes I just wonder how do they still profit when there are a lot of competitors out in the market I mean, I know they do have specialties but it’s just a milk tea, it has the same content but different brand names! Imagine all this brands competing: Happy Lemon, Serenitea, Bon appitea, moonleaf tea, Zen tea, Tea central, Gong Cha, Bubble Tea, Happy fan shu, Saint’s Alps tea house and more more more! The tea industry here in Manila is insane and cannot be controlled anymore! I wish that the aforementioned brands continue growing and I hope I am wrong that everything about this craze is just a fad or at least no additional competitors because it’s just too much already.
Trend 2: Yoghurt
California Berry, Golden Spoon, I ♥ Yo, Frutti Froyo, Red Mango; this are just few brands of “froyo” that knocked at Manila entering the year 2011. Everyone is tweeting about it, everyone is craving for it and no matter how pricey it is, yogurt chains just keeps on growing until finally I knew that this yogurt is just a fad thing where more and more frozen yogurt chains are starting to close (well at least nearby where I study). well my opinion on it is I think fro-yo isn’t part of filipino lifestyle where you have to place plenty branches of it. first, it’s pricey and 2nd it’s not our ordinary cravings plus it’s quite obvious that it will soon wear off. actually it already did, right? You see, more and more chains are pulling out because it’s not profitable as they think it would be and you just know it’s a fad wherein it is ordinary that anyone can duplicate the whole idea. ( I think the birth of milk tea killed the whole yogurt trend)

Trend 3: Scramble
The icy cold pink scramble, which was once enjoyed by both kids and adults on the late years (perhaps our parents generation) was revived again this 2011. Containing crushed bubbly milk on ice, powdered milk, and chocolate syrup topped with different toppings makes a cup of Scramble. It has this very bubbly texture that once you eat it, it actually melts and it’s like eating bubbles if you know what I mean. Personally, I’m not a fan of this because I don’t like the texture it gives me and it’s not a typical cravings as well. I think the premise here is that they revive memories from the past wherein it was once sold on the streets. At least now you know it’s sanitized!

This staple sweet isn’t advisable to have different brands out of it, I mean it offers all the same there’s no competition out of this one.
Trend 4: Tornado potato on a stick

It is potato with a twist; literally, that is. It is huge potatoes sliced thinly via corkscrew like ( or as I call it, potato sharpener) and deep fried to a perfect crunch. Personally I find it tasty and very well presented. However I find it hard eating it and come to think of it for the price range of 50-60 pesos, you get a very few chips out from a stick. For me it’s just awesome to try it but I’d stick to my old time love w/c is a bag of lays or ruffles wherein it’s much easier to munch, handy and plenteous.

You see, here, there’s no competition as well yet multiple brands have been popping with the same concept and it’s like if you have that machine and a potato you can sell those but to compete who’s better , you’re going to have a hard time with that, i tell you! and my advice, lower the price because 50-60 pesos isn’t reasonable especially your target market are mainstreamers and class D and E.
Trend 5: Weekend Market
It started with Banchetto in Ortigas then followed by Mercato in Taguig and now we have Soderno in South, Molito and the latest is Distrito in Makati!

This one I could say is the best and most genius trend that happened this 2011, It is tailor-fitted to the culture of filipinos who loves eating. There are so much about the place that is blog-worthy and give appreciation about. It showcases various food types from grilled, baked, organic, fried everything is just there in one place.
Plus the strategy of it just doing every weekend adds to the excitement of food goers “na talagang dadayuhin ng pinoy!”
Now to end this post, Overall, Fads are just there, my say on it is that I think it is something we should embrace and accept on our food adventure since it offers people new flavor experiences and it’s always a good thing. I think we should appreciate the phenomenon and hope that the public will be more willing to be adventurous with their food.
Hoping for better food trips this coming 2012!
